Black July, 1983
Black July refers to the anti-Tamil pogrom that swept across Sri Lanka beginning on 23 July 1983. Over several days, Tamil homes, businesses, and properties were attacked, looted, and burned, with widespread violence against Tamil civilians. IDCTE marks its anniversary each year to honor the victims and to press for accountability, which — decades later — has still not been delivered.
