The Tamil Genocide

IDCTE holds that Eelam Tamils have faced, and continue to face, genocide in Tamileelam by the occupying Sri Lankan state. This genocide has been carried out against Eelam Tamils since 1948, reaching its peak in 2009 during the final phase of the armed conflict, when tens of thousands of Eelam Tamils were killed and at least 146,679 remain unaccounted for.

Today, IDCTE's research points to a structural genocide — continued militarization of the North-East, state-sponsored Sinhalization of Tamil land and demographics, and the erasure of Tamil identity, culture, and literature. Raising international awareness of this ongoing genocide, and driving concrete action for accountability and justice, is the organization's primary objective.
